'I'VE ACHIEVED ALL I WANTED, BUT STILL FEEL THE JOY OF PLAYING' – Actress decides to take IMPORTANT CAREER STEP and tell her plans
Legendary actress Svetlana Ceca Bojković attended the screening of the digitally restored version of the film Some Other Woman (Neka druga žena), directed by Miomir Miki Stamenković, held on the roof terrace of the Armed Forces Cultural and Information Centre – not just as a member of the audience, but also as a member of this film's cast. As part of the A1 Cinematheque Summer Cinema, the screening was graced by the presence of many attendees. This occasioned an interview that the actress did with Kurir, in which she recalled the shooting of this film in 1981 and the memories it brought back. She also explained her recent decision to leave her legacy as an actress to the Adligat Association for Culture, Art, and International Cooperation. The abovementioned film opened this nostalgic conversation.
Director Miomir Stamenković once said that Some Other Woman will be a thing apart in our cinema.
"He was right. As a genre, crime films were few and far between, unlike today, when they're everywhere. The film fared well with the story it told, which was very different from what was generally promoted at the time. This is an occasion to watch it again after so much time, and I've forgiven all the mistakes that had slipped through. These mistakes are naïve for today's films, but they can be forgiven, and it makes sense to do so, because the film was made 42 years ago. Some Other Woman was off-centre at the time, but it still managed to find its way to the audience."
How did you feel during the screening?
"I was excited, especially because my colleagues and dear friends who are sadly no longer with us had taken part in the film. This film reunites me with them and makes me recall the times we'd spent together."
How did you decide to leave your artist's legacy to the Adligat Association?
"I had heard of Adligat and went to their museum. Viktor Lazić took me on a tour through the interior. When the Ivan Bekjarev legacy exhibit was unveiled, I went to Adligat again and decided to bequeath my artist's legacy to them. They have many associates, and I do believe that they are yet to expand."
What items of your legacy will be there?
"I haven't yet decided what I will give away. I know it's going to be a great deal of material, so we've agreed to set aside a room for my legacy exhibit."
What is it like to last in the acting profession? What is your guiding idea?
"My guiding idea is that I love my job. I always feel the joy of playing when I work, and look forward to it. Of course, at my age, I don't want to go overboard – I need to choose. I get many projects but, unfortunately, I cannot accept all invitations."
What is in the pipelines in the upcoming period?
"I was offered a wonderful project, but I couldn't accept it because it was too big and it would have been too strenuous. The TV series In a Clinch (U klinču) will be shown soon, and we're starting to shoot season two as early as December. The crew are great and the directors – the young Bećković and Čupko – are wonderful. The young cast are also wonderful, and it was a pleasure working with them."
Is there something you still want but haven't achieved yet?
"I've achieved everything that I've wanted. I love comedies, and I'm happy to play in them at my age."
You are considered a character actress. Even when you play what are supposedly light roles, a strong character is always there.
"That is precisely what amuses me in acting. Playing different characters always makes me happy and refreshed."
Times change, people change, and so do acting styles. How do you keep in step with the passage of time?
"I think rather well. You must be smart, subtle, and never go too far, so that you avoid ending up looking like a batty crone, which I do not want in the least."
